Do you like teaching science the fun way? This lesson, recommended for elementary grades, teaches children in a fun way about potential and kinetic energy as well as projectile motion. Originally, this lesson was taught in a coop setting with much success; however, it can also be done one-family style if preferred!
What will you need?

- Popsicle sticks
- Rubber bands
- Plastic teaspoon
- Aluminum foil
- Ping pong balls
- Gummy bears
What will the children learn and do?
- They will learn what catapults are, their history, variations and how they work.
- They will understand about potential and kinetic energy; how potential energy is stored in an object, changed into kinetic energy and transferred to a launched object.
- They will discover how a size of an angle determines whether the object flies higher or further.
- They will learn how weight of an object impacts the flight distance.
- They will create their own catapult and launch objects.
