Handwriting Practice for Pre-K

Is your preschooler eager to start with basic pre-handwriting and handwriting practice? Even though children ages 3-4 are not yet developmentally or physically ready to trace lines and letters precisely, using workbooks helps them improve their fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination, prepares them for serious writing skills, encourages them to focus and provides screen-free fun activities for every day.

Why use preschool workbooks?

There are many benefits for your children to spend time using workbooks in their early years. On one hand it keeps them peacefully occupied, but on the other hand there are so many benefits to workbook activities. For example:

  • It improves their fine motor skills.
  • It advances their eye-hand coordination.
  • It prepares them for serious writing skills.
  • It encourages them to focus.
  • It provides screen-free fun activities.

What will you discover in Handwriting Practice for Pre-K?

This workbook includes a variety of tracing and coloring activities that differ from page to page. For example:

  • Line tracing (both horizontal and vertical)
  • Tracing shapes
  • Tracing pictures and coloring them
  • Tracing letters and numbers

Both letters and numbers tracing activities repeat themselves in differently framed pages throughout the book in order to provide a necessary review. At the end of their workbook practice, the children will be able to recognize both letters and numbers and remember how to write at least some of them.

What should the children use to trace with?

We strongly discourage using a pencil for tracing any objects, including letters and numbers. As pencil provides only light lines, many children have a need to push hard to achieve a desirable visual outcome. However, this stiffens their hand, which is an opposite effect than what needs to be achieved. Pen, crayons, or even markers work much better for tracing.
